I am not a sailor but I know how to sail. I spent 7 months living on sailboats. This is my first and biggest crossing: Panama to French Polynesia.
I was almost 2 years on the road and going north with my route planned throughout Central America when I met Zack in Santa Catalina, Panama. He was on a sailboat, with a crew of 7, leaving to French Polynesia pretty soon. they were missing their last, 7th crew member. In one night (One night only!, just like the song), I changed my mind completely and the course of my trip too.
All those stories about sailing oceans and seas, going to secluded beaches and islands where tourists cannot get, sleeping on the deck under the stars, husking coconuts and picking bananas and grapefruits yourself, spear-fishing and sailing with dolphins and whales... and simply living on a boat, left me speechless and my adventure spirit was biting at the bit. I just couldn´t say NO.
So...As you can guess I never made it to Mexico (luckily I´ve been there before)..but I ended up sailing across the Pacific Ocean on a 53 foot sailboat to Marquesas islands, the first piece of land every boat coming from the "Americas" sees. First time in my life sailing and thank God I don´t get seasick.
